One of my favorite places in the whole world is the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Badeck, Cape Breton ... The exhibit uzzes with the mans genius ... so many things that we use every day and consider essential came from this mans mind. A visionary, a creator, a business man and a family man its all there to be seen.
Mileposts mark century of flying The Cape Breton Post
Two anniversaries this week stand as towering signposts to a century past of remarkable technological advances in moving people in very unnatural ways.
On Monday, more than 600 Grade 6 students from around Cape Breton gathered at Baddeck to share in events marking the creation 100 years earlier of the Aerial Experiment Association, the group of innovators and daredevils who assembled around Alexander Graham Bell and wife Mabel to undertake the quixotic task of inventing their own airplane.
Just 17 months later, Douglas McCurdy flew the most famous of their contraptions, the Silver Dart, across the frozen waters of the Bras d’Or. The centenary of that first controlled powered flight in Canada and the British Empire will be celebrated on Feb. 23, 2009.
The 20th century pace of flying machine development was breathtaking. Tomorrow marks 50 years since the launch of Sputnik,
